From our inception in 2014 until recently, Little WORLD Charity's only vehicle for delivering joy to children has been our display cases. These cases, in twenty-one children's hospitals, clinics, and libraries, now bring over 400,000 smiles (button presses) to children a year.
In the second half of 2024 we labored to create another branch of our work, a huge model train display first exhibited at Durham's Main Library in December, 2024. We're going to repeat this ten day show sometime TBD in Raleigh in 2025 and, I expect, repeat annually in both cities. We need volunteers like you. Your reward is the fun of running the trains and seeing the joyful faces of young children and families. Interested? Read on.
Here's a one-minute video showing small portions of the 384 square foot display in action.
Here'a a 3 minute, full tour of the display, which includes ten trains and four buttons for patrons to press that activate the carnivals. Notice the volunteers behind the tables (that's what you'll be doing if you help us).
The smiles on the faces of children, of all ages, are priceless. The most prevalent age of child visitors has been two to five year olds, since they are especially fascinated by everything. Several volunteers mentioned that they loved being involved due to both their happiness in seeing the children and to the fun of running the trains.
I don't have a date yet as to when we willl repeat the show but we have a firm request from Wake County Libraries to do it in 2025, probably at the North Raleigh Regional Library in the summer. Then I hope we will repeat the show in Durham and Raleigh each year, making this a beloved annual tradition in both counties. We need caring people like you to make this happen. If interested in possibly volunteering at a show, please email me (Tim Gabriel, Founder and Director of Little WORLD Charity) at littleworldcharity@gmail.com
